1,4-Butanediol

1,4-Butanediol (Butane-1,4-diol), is an organic compound. Appearance is colorless or light yellow oily liquid. Soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, slightly soluble in ether. It is hygroscopic, has a bitter odor, and is slightly sweet in the mouth.

Production use

It is used as a solvent and a wetting agent, and is also used for making plasticizers, medicines, polyester resins, polyurethane resins, etc.

It is the basic raw material for the production of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) plastics and PBT fibers; it is the main raw material for the production of tetrahydrofuran.

Storage conditions

Packed in aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized iron drums or plastic drums, or stored and transported in tankers according to the regulations for flammable and toxic substances. Because the melting point is as high as 20 ℃, the tank car should be equipped with a heating tube.
