Acrylamide is colorless and transparent flaky crystal, odorless and toxic. Soluble in water and ethanol, slightly soluble in benzene and toluene. Very easy to sublime, easy to polymerize. The solid is stable at room temperature and, when molten, polymerizes violently. It is obtained by hydrolysis of acrylonitrile with sulfuric acid or with a metal catalyst.
